Question 1

Which Volkswagen Transporter generation is best to buy used?

Accepted Answer

The T6.1, from 2019, is the most modern, with updated driver aids and a new dashboard. The T6 from 2015 and the T5 after its 2009 facelift use the 2.0 TDI common-rail engine, while earlier T5s have the 1.9 and 2.5 TDI.

Question 2

What should I check on a used Volkswagen California?

Accepted Answer

Check that the pop-up roof opens and seals properly, that the kitchen and fridge, where fitted, and the leisure battery work, and that the water system has no leaks. The 2.0 TDI underneath needs the usual checks on its particulate filter and EGR valve.

Question 3

Can an older Volkswagen diesel van enter Italian city centres?

Accepted Answer

Older Transporter and Caddy diesels of the lower Euro classes are restricted in Milan's Area B and by the Po Valley regions' winter anti-smog measures. Check the Euro class on the Documento Unico before buying.

Question 4

How much does a new Volkswagen Multivan cost?

Accepted Answer

The new Multivan sits beside the Caddy, the Caravelle, the California camper and the electric ID. Buzz, with diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains and manual or automatic gearboxes. Each version is shown at Volkswagen's list price next to the used vans.
